Nature is My Muse

Nature is a portal to our interconnectedness with everything.  Painting is a bridge that merges the inner world with the outer.

Pamela Gene Miller is a contemporary abstract painter whose work draws from the beauty of nature that surrounds her Primrose Studio.

Artist Bio

Born in Louisville, Kentucky, Pamela grew up with the tragedy of losing both her parents early in life.  This loss helped develop her passion for emotional expression through drawing and painting and a deep dedication to her artistic talent.

Pamela received a scholarship and BFA in Fine Arts – Painting from Washington University in St. Louis. She moved to San Francisco and was hired as an artist to develop multimedia software, leading to a career in technology. She worked for Macromedia (Adobe), Apple, and co-founded Orange Design, a boutique design and animation studio, creating websites, games and animations for many notable clients, including LucasArts, Pixar and Disney.

During the 2020 pandemic, Pamela decided to follow her true passion and took leave from her work in technology. She moved to rural Sonoma County in the San Francisco Bay Area where she paints in a large converted garden shed on five spacious acres.

She explores the energy and forces in nature – growth, decay and rebirth – and translates that energy into mixed-media acrylic paintings on paper and canvas.  Central to everything in her work is a sense of freedom, abundance, beauty and love.

Pamela’s work has been exhibited at Saffron + Poe Design Gallery, Five 3 Gallery in Laguna Beach, the Burlingame Mansion, and Richmond Marina in California, and the Steinberg Gallery in St. Louis, MO.

“My art is an act of love.”

Artist Statement

With nature as my muse, my love for the natural world unfolds as energy in motion through the act of painting. My work is nourished by the place I call home, a gorgeous backdrop of lush gardens, giant redwoods, plentiful hiking trails, wild beaches and sweet swimming holes in rural Sonoma County, California.

I am inspired by the fractals and patterns in nature, the sacred geometry that informs all life — the indescribable beauty of a new blossom, the translucence of a fresh leaf, the aliveness in a new shoot. In essence, my work reflects the energy I sense in nature as a celebration of freedom, abundance and beauty that permeates the natural world.

In my creative process, I tune in to the cycle of life, the dance of opposing forces that make up the natural world of growth vs decay, always in a state of change. Beginning with a series of gestural lines and washes using contrasting colors and marks, the stage is set for the tension of dark vs light, rough vs smooth, serious vs playful.

This is really all about love. My love for painting, my love of nature, my love of diving deeply into the natural world all around me. My desire to share this love and inspire and uplift others through this work keeps moving me forward.
